Women I Love: Michelle Obama

Women I Love: Michelle Obama
June 30, 2017 Farissa Knox

If you know anything about me, you already know how I feel about Former First Lady, Michelle Obama.

I can count on one hand, the number of black women who have been able to live their lives as their authentic self, climb to the top of whatever ladder they choose to put their feet on and be celebrated by more people than folks who hate them. There is no shinier example than Michelle, for me, because of the visibility and positivity it gave to the image and reflection of black women to the world.

I love and respect her because she is smart.

I love and respect her because she is in love with her husband and he is in love with her.

I love and respect her because she speaks when she feels like speaking and doesn’t when she doesn’t.

I love and respect her because she is an amazing mother raising two amazing young ladies to be the best versions of themselves.

I love and respect her because she didn’t let the negative comments, racism and hatred that she was faced with as First Lady change anything about herself.

I love and respect her because she stood up and was loud about the truths that really do face the black community (no matter your income level) as soon as you walk out of your front door everyday.

I love and respect her because she can show her brown, silky shoulder walking the streets of Italy and cause a national discussion.

I love and respect her because she is living history.

I love and respect her because she is inspiration, defined.

Love Farissa.
